Una delle carole più recenti, è al centro di un curioso intreccio di personalità artistiche inglesi di fine ‘800 – inizio ‘900.
La musica fu infatti scritta nel 1905 dal compositore austriaco Gustav Holst, per una raccolta di inni curata dall’amico compositore Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Le parole sono invece della poetessa Christina Rossetti, sorella del pittore pre-raffaellita Dante Gabriel, e nipote dello scrittore John Polidori, medico personale di Lord Byron e autore del famoso romanzo “Il Vampiro”.
