Homesick Suni

2024 - Rock, Psichedelia, Folk

Descrizione

The Homesick Suni project was born in 2012, when I recorded a bunch of songs in my bedroom on a broken Hitachi tape recorder, self-releasing them on a CD-R for a small circle of friends: same story as any other band. Played small solo gigs, kept on home recording new songs, then I started playing with William and Michelangelo as Homesick Suni & The Red Shades (HSIII).
Later on The Red Shades were disbanded and I found myself in a total impasse until I met Davide, who asked me to record a demo of his band.
When they came over in the rented studio I was fooling in, I was shocked by their bass player, who happened to be Elisabetta.
Bezzi, as we used to call her at the time, was great: she could play mellow and delicate lines and then switch to hard rocking with grit and accuracy just using her fingers: it was the first time I witnessed true talent.
I immediately asked her and Davide to join me as the new incarnation of Homesick Suni (HSVI), so the band begun to rehearse, with the grafting of new members as Marco on keyboards, Mauro on guitar and another Marco on saxophone. We had a great time together, exploring new things and I definitely improved my musical sensibility especially thanks to Elisabetta. Just watching her on stage gave me the confidence and the coolness I needed, and hearing her grooving on the songs was terrific. She was always very positive, immediately getting the mood of every song, helping me to rearrange them as we create our own style and concept.
After a few line-up changes and the departure of some members, I thought I was alone again, but this time Betta was there: she told me we had to keep on going on, so we searched for a drummer to fit in with the both of us: Daniel got on board as we embarked towards the definitive line-up (HSIV) with Sandro — with a little cameo by Jacopo. Unfortunately the definitive line-up is not what you are hearing on this record, but we wrote these songs together, we arranged them together, we established guide lines for the vinyl artwork together, and I feel that if I slowly turn my head while recording these songs with her Fender Jazz Bass she would smile at us: we are still together, one way or another. Now that everything is done, I know she is still here telling me not to give up.
