One Sip to Bast
A toxoplasma parasite has
Commandeered a rat
“Take me to a cat”
The rat has stowed aboard a ship
The galley’s cat’s domain
After a chat and a playful pat
The rat’s politely slain
A foreign port with fishy smells
Attracts the cat to shore
Where greedy feline eyes espy
A rainbow hued macaw
Moonless, clouded, thickly foliaged
I don’t wanna sail
They’re coming, coming, coming, coming to get you
They’re coming, coming, coming in hush
They’re coming, coming, coming, coming to get you
They’re coming, coming, coming in hush, yeah
The crawling floor: a restlеss bed
The wide-еyed cat is contrite
Coiled above, a viper’s membraned
Pits sense infrared
It scans the cat’s warm inner light
And slips by overhead
Side-tracked to the jungle fringe where
Bearings fall awry
It hesitantly lifts a paw
As evening blacks the sky
Moonless, clouded, thickly foliaged
Maybe this time, maybe I can sail
One Sip to Bast
Sharasad
