Just after dusk, an ominous sound starts echoing from the
village. Scream, shout, smoke. The snare drum seems like
whipping everybody at every stroke. It’s been in the news:
a young lady is taken to the pillory. She will be the first one.
Her crime: witchcraft.
Still today, nobody knows whether it was real magic or just
a different way of seeing things.
With this same spirit, the band Soul of Salem from Bari,
Italy is aiming to evoke what happened in those dark times.
That is achieved by mixing a powerful but yet resonant and
soulful female voice with doom-distorted, stringed
instruments and straightforward drums.
The band was founded on February 2019.
By October ’19 five tracks were ready, and the first gig was
held.
The subsequent months were focused on getting to the
recording studio and gigging.
By February 2020, recordings, mixing and mastering at
Death Star Studio by Marco Fischetti were all set.
3 March 2020 was the release date of their first EP whose
name is “From the Hands of Witches”.
After just three days, a state of total lockdown was declared
in Italy. It lasted two months.
The band members dedicated themselves body and soul to
improve their social pages (FB and IG)
That is also when their bandcamp account was created: on
their page you can find both digital and physical versions
of their works.
On 12 April ’20 they released their last single: Doomsday.
The band is currently active and composing on daily basis.
Their commitment for the future is to expand their audience
both locally and worldwide.
All their works so far have been self-released. They aren’t
signed to any label or booking company.
