È stato così che, nel 2014, i TurboDiesel hanno iniziato a prendere forma. Dopo aver cambiato alcuni componenti, la formazione ufficiale è nata nel 2015, grazie al bassista che si è messo in gioco e si è proposto anche come cantante: Federico Balboni, conosciuto con il nome di Balbo. Così, Lorenzo Preziosi (Prezio) prese le bacchette in mano e si sedette dietro la batteria dei TurboDiesel. Quello che si mangiava gli assoli è diventato Riccardo Billi, altresì chiamato Billi (che non è un soprannome, come all’inizio pensavamo, ma è proprio il suo cognome!). Ed infine, il tastierista che ha passato il primo anno a chiedere in prestito tastiere perché solo in possesso di un pianoforte: Matteo Govoni (Matte). Il nome della band è nato ispirandosi al nostro stile musicale, sporco e cattivo, come solo un motore turbodiesel può essere (o forse perché, guardando la macchina di Balbo, ci siamo accorti che turbodiesel era già scritto davanti ai nostri occhi?!). È nel maggio 2016 che la band riceve il suo primo ingaggio ad una festa parrocchiale a Casteldebole (provincia di Bologna) e, dopo questa data, ci siamo resi conto che il nostro genere non era per nulla adatto a questo luogo! In questo modo, carichi e con tanta voglia di suonare, abbiamo dedicato un anno allo studio di cover e alla composizione dei nostri primi inediti. Il 2017 è stato l’anno della svolta: dopo una serie di contest e live, in numerosi luoghi e tipologie di eventi, ci siamo dedicati alla composizione di inediti, per poter esprimere al meglio i nostri pensieri attraverso la musica. Ma non dimentichiamoci! È proprio in questo periodo che ci siamo dedicati alla realizzazione della nostra sala prove ufficiale, in quel di Maccaretolo (paesino in provincia di Bologna), anche detto Maccatown. In poco tempo si è rivelata la fucina delle nostre idee e, da dicembre 2017, dopo aver raggiunto un numero sufficiente di inediti, ci siamo dedicati all’incisione del nostro primo album, Petrolhead, presso il Wooden Studio, di Cento.

And that’s how, in 2014, the TurboDiesel started to take shape. After the changing of certain members, the official formation was born in 2015, thanks to the bass player, Federico Balboni known as Balbo, who took the challenge and put himself forward as a singer as well. So, Lorenzo Preziosi (Prezio) picked the sticks up and sat behind the TurboDiesel drums. The one who ate his solos turned out to be Riccardo Billi, also known as Billi (which isnt’t a nickname, as we all thought at the beginnig, but his actual last name!). Last but not least, the keyboard player who spent the first year asking for keyboards because he only owned a piano: Matteo Govoni (Matte).
The name of the band was inspired by the style of music we play, dirty and rough, like only a turbo diesel engine can be (or maybe because, by looking at Balbo’s car, we realised that “turbo diesel” was written before our eyes already?!).
In May 2016, the band was first hired for a parochial party in Casteldebole (in the province of Bologna). After that event, we realised that our genre wasn’t suited for that type of places at all! This way, pumped and very eager to play, we spent a year studying covers and composing unrealeased songs. 2017 was the turning point: after a series of contests and live sessions in differents places and types of events, we dedicated ourselves to the composition of unreleased songs to best express our thoughts through music.
But let’s not forget! It’s exactly in this period that we focused on setting up our official rehearsal studio in Maccaretolo (a small town in the province of Bologna) also known as “Maccatown”. In a short amount of time, it proved to be the hotbed of our ideas, and, since December 2017, after having achieved a sufficient amount of unreleased songs, we decided to concentrate on the recording of our first album, Petrolhead, at Wooden Studio in Cento.
